Why you don't need to count calories to lose weight.

You don't need to count calories or measure your food, in order to lose weight.
You might be surprised to read that. Especially if you've dieted any length of time like I have.
If you really think about it, it makes more sense that your body would know how much to eat, compared to the artificial need of measuring calories and exact amounts. Anyone who's spent time taking care of animals can see that they know how much to eat and what to eat without knowing about calories.
It's also interesting to see that when animals are not fed their natural diet, how that affects their eating patterns and behaviours. This is when you get fat cats. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means their body requires meat to function. When they're fed nothing but kibble, they often overeat, because their body isn't getting what it needs.
Sound familiar?
Eat your natural diet and learn to notice your cues around what to eat and how much to eat, and you'll notice that your body naturally guides you to what you need.
It's you that needs to get out of the way.
Meaning, you gotta learn how to sense what your body needs. Like paying attention to when your body says to stop eating.
Stopping eating when your body is telling you to, isn't just about weight-loss.
It's also about healthy digestion.... notice when your body feels overfull or when it feels upset from something you ate. Your digestive system is stressed and asking you to do something about it.
It's a simple as that. Noticing. Then acting.
The hard part is to do it every time you eat, when there's so many distractions.
Turn off your phone, look away from the screen and look at your food. Start there.
Eat and notice how the food tastes and how satisfied you feel.
Notice when your body says it's had enough.
What's your signal that you've had enough?
